Acidic and Basic

How do you know if a solution is acidic or basic?

You can tell this by looking at the pH of the solution or the concentration of hydronium and hydroxide. If the pH is lower than 7, then the solution is acidic. If the pH is higher than 7, then the solution is basic. If the concentration of the hydronium ions is higher than the hydroxide ions, then the solution is acidic.

I would also like to know how to differentiate between acidic and basic reactions.

Sometimes the question will tell you if the solution is acidic or basic. Other times, if there are more H+ ions on one side, it will be acidic, whereas if there are OH- ions, it will be basic.
