Balance each of the following skeletal equations by using oxidation and reduction half-reactions. All the reactions take place in a basic solution. Identify the oxidizing agent and reducing agent in each reaction.

P4(s) --> H2PO2-(aq) + PH3(aq)

for this redox reaction, how do we start the question by separating it into half reactions since P4 is both the reducing and oxidizing agent?

I'd write two half-cell equations, both involving P4 as a reactant, but one with it being oxidized and one with it being reduced.
