Well we know that Cl2 is both the reduced and oxidized form and we have the oxidized form so therfore the reduced form must be
Cl2 + 1e--->Cl-

We know that Cl2 both oxidizes and reduces, so $Cl_{2}\rightarrow 2Cl+2e^{-}$

How are we to assume that it is both the reduced and oxidized form?

[Cl][/2] is both reduced and oxidized, since the oxidized form is given, we need to find the reduced form.
