Can you use OH to add oxygen instead of H2O?

No, because adding OH is going to do weird things with the pH of the solution depending on whether or not the reduction reaction happens in an acidic or basic solution.

Generally no, H2O is probably best to be used. OH can create issues with PH if it is an acidic or basic reaction

The only reason you would add oh is if the solution is basic and you would use it to balance the hydrogens. H20 is used to balance oxygens.

You only add OH- if you are dealing with a basic solution, otherwise you add H20 or H+.

OH- is only added when balancing a redox reaction in a basic solution. You add the same number of OH- as you have H+ to both sides of the equation.

OH- can be added to balance oxygen only if it is a basic solution.

no you always use h20 to balance out the o's, then you use oh's later on, in basic solutions to balance the charge (not in acidic solutions though).

No, it would weirdly affect the ph of the solution, especially when balancing it under acidic conditions.

you use OH when you are dealing with basic solutions. You still add H2O to balance the oxygens but the you had OH to make the reaction less acidic and more basic

The main reason OH would be in a chemical equation would be for basic solutions. In general always use H2O to add oxygen. If it is a basic solution, what I usually do is wait until everything is balanced according to an acidic solution, then I add an OH for every H+ on both sides, and cancel out the water to reach the balanced equation.

You would only add OH- to a reaction to balance the amount of H2O that was added (in general, for every H2O added, one OH- needs to be added).
