Oxidation States for TM
Just to clarify, there's no way to tell the oxidation state for a transition metal without looking at the other, known, parts of the equation, right?

yes! transition metals frequently have more than one oxidation state, so by itself its impossible to know which one.

Yeah, unless it's given. It's not too difficult to figure out if you can figure out the oxidation state of the atom(s) it is paired with in the equation!

Yes, the oxidation states of TM need to be calculated in relation to the other elements in the compound. I think the only exceptions are Ag+1 and Zn+2

Yeah! You can figure out the oxidation states for TM's by figuring out the oxidation state of the atoms it is paired within the equation.

Hi! TM oxidation numbers need to be calculated based on the other elements in the compound!

Yes! You figure out the oxidation states of TM by looking at the oxidation states of the atoms its paired with.
