Sapling #8 (Week 7/8)

Postby Jessica Luong 3K » Mon Mar 15, 2021 8:09 pm

Separate this redox reaction into its balanced component half‑reactions. Use the symbol e− for an electron.

Cl2+2Na⟶2NaCl

I was able to figure out the oxidation half-reaction which was 2Na --> 2(Na+) + 2e-.
However, I am having a problem figuring out the correct reduction half-reaction. From my calculations, I thought that the reduction half-reaction would have to be: Cl2 + 2(e-) --> 2Cl but this was considered incorrect.

It should be 2Cl- instead of 2Cl

The reduction half reaction is --> 2Cl- (aq).

I need to always check that I have my (-) because I end up not having it. Thank you for the help.
