How to balance redox reactions
Can someone please explain step by step how to balance redox reactions? Specifically when oxygen is present.

Re: How to balance redox reactions
Here are the steps:
1. Identify what is reduced/oxidized based on oxidation numbers
2. Separate half reactions
For each half reaction:
3. Balance elements that are not H and O
4. Balance oxygen using H2O
5. Balance H:
--> Acidic: use H+
--> Basic: use equal amounts of H2O and OH- (side that needs the oxygen will get H2O)
6. Balance charges using e-
7. Recombine half reactions making sure the e- cancel out exactly
8. Cancel like terms

Re: How to balance redox reactions
A redox equation can be balanced using the following stepwise procedure: (1) Divide the equation into two half-reactions. (2) Balance each half-reaction for mass and charge. (3) Equalize t
