EM radiation and Colors

Hi :)

Can someone explain why EM radiation is seen as light please? I know that when electrons are excited they give off photons when they are move to a different energy level in a material's atoms, but literally why are photons seen as light?
Also, when stage lights are filtered through a green, red, or other colored material/paper, is the wavelength of the light that reach our eyes different than the light from the stage light without the filter? Can someone please explain this idea?

To my knowledge, visible light is visible because the photons in the light are picked up by photoreceptor cells in your eyes that then transmit the information to the brain for processing. As for color filters, the filter simply absorbs the colors that are not passing through the filter, which would mean that the filter is absorbing the light in those respective wavelengths and letting the rest of the light pass through in a specific wavelength.
