Photoelectric Effect Post-module Question

Postby HanSitoy » Sat Oct 21, 2017 9:35 pm

Light hits a sodium metal surface and the velocity of the ejected electron is 6.61 x 105 m.s-1. The work function for sodium is 150.6 kJ.mol-1.

What is the frequency of the incident light on the metal surface?

E(photon) = work function + Kinetic Energy
h * frq = work function + (1/2)(mass)(velocity)^2

^^so,

frq = [(150.6 kJ/mol) + .5(9.11x10^-31 kg)(6.61x10^5 m/s)^2] / (6.6.26x10^-34 J.s)
