Units for wavelengths

Postby RichardValdez1L » Sat Apr 14, 2018 5:18 pm

Do our units for wavelengths have to be meters or are they supposed to align with the units given in the problem?

Wavelengths should be in terms of meters or nanometers. If you solve for the problem correctly, then you should be able to get meters as your units for wavelength.

Yes, wavelength is represented by lambda and frequency is represented by v

I'm going to assume that the problems will give us a variation of both meters and nanometers and then for the final answer for wavelength we have to convert it to nanometers if necessary.

I mean from the way Lavelle made it out to be in class, he just said that we use nanometers just to make it easier to say but it truly doesn't make a difference whether you use meters or nanometers would be my guess unless they specify in the problem to use one or the other.

It is usually expressed in nanometers because wavelengths are so small.
