What is the difference between the continuous spectrum and the line spectrum?

The line spectrum shows the specific wavelengths that are being absorbed/emitted, whereas the continuous spectrum shows a continuum of wavelengths. A line spectrum is discrete, while the continuous spectrum isn't.

A continuous spectrum has wavelengths with no gaps in between. For example, when white light is shone through a prism, a rainbow (all wavelengths of visible radiation) is seen. On the other hand, a line spectrum consists of spectral lines that appear from the transition between two allowed energies.

The main difference between them is that continuous spectrum contains no gaps whereas line spectrum contains many gaps.

A continuous spectrum is the emission of a continuous range of frequencies of electromagnetic radiation.
A line spectrum shows a series of specific wavelengths of emitted light made when the visible part of light from excited atoms shine through a prism.
