I know he went over this but I still don't get it. Why are there bigger spaces between certain quantum levels? Like the space between n=3 and n=2 is bigger than the space between n=4 and n=3.

It takes more energy to move remove an electron from a lower energy level, since physically the electrons are closer to the nucleus.

With the formula we used in class, the biggest Energy gap or jump is from n=1 to n=2 (or vice versa). This happens because as energy increases the distance between the energy levels decreases. so n=2 to n=3 is smaller than n=1 to n=2 but larger than n=3 to n=4. So as energy goes up, the space between the energy levels decrease

Those bigger spaces are due to the increase in the ionization energy when the electrons are close to the nucleus, the lower energy levels are close to the nucleus and require more energy to remove them from orbit.
