6th Edition: Problem 1.9

For this textbook problem, it asks us to fill in the blanks for the missing portions of a chart (frequency, wavelength, energy of photon, and event). When I was comparing my answers, I didn't really know how to find the "event" of the corresponding frequencies and wavelengths in the chart. How do you get to these solutions using your given information: suntan, reading, microwave popcorn, and dental x-ray?

I used the chart that was found a few pages before the questions to identify which event correlated to which wavelength. I'm not sure if we have to memorize those sections though.

You can determine the event by the frequency, wavelength, and energy based on a chart earlier in the chapter. I don't think that you will have to know these numbers, but you should know the range of visible light (400 nm to 700 nm).

On page 6 there is a paragraph that begins with, "As far as we know, ..." Within the paragraph there are a few examples of events corresponding to ultraviolet radiation and infrared radiation. However, like the other answers have suggested, the most important thing to know probably is what wavelength corresponds to what type of radiation.
