Test 2 Outline 2 Question About Electron Transition

Postby Anne Kim 3F » Tue Oct 23, 2018 12:46 am

Outline 2 says, "• With respect to electron transitions that give rise to a UV or visible spectrum: understand the
difference between electronic transitions in atomic orbitals (atomic spectroscopy) and electronic
transitions in molecular orbitals (molecular spectroscopy)."

Can someone elaborate on that and explain to me what that means?

Basically electrons in both atoms and molecules can be excited to higher energy states (n=1,2 etc) so when they emit electromagnetic radiation, it gives detail to the spectroscopy
