Atomic Spectra

Postby aisteles1G » Tue Oct 23, 2018 4:14 pm

For test 2, should we know about atomic spectra? It was one of the video modules for us to watch but I don't really remember us going over it that much in class, thanks!

You do need to know all the fundamentals of this. Almost all of the math and equations we have been learning have actually all been related to the atomic spectra. All the equations with energy, bohr frequency condition, de broglie, rydberg equation etc all have applications with atomic spectra.

Remember atomic spectra is another way of saying the light emitted from atoms that are excited and go to a higher energy level, then sink back down to a lower one. All the stuff about photons, E=hv etc all were related to atomic spectra.

Yes this will be on the exam! To add on what has been replied to, this relates to hydrogen ONLY.
