wavelength

Postby Clarissa Nava 3H » Sat Dec 08, 2018 7:10 pm

is the wavelength the distance between one peak of the wave to the next peak?

Yes, that's correct. The units for wavelength is m (or, more commonly nm)

Yes! The wavelength is the distance from one peak of the wave to the other peak. A lower wavelength (100) has a higher frequency and a higher wavelength has a lower frequency (since they are inversely proportional).

The wavelength is the distance from one peak of the wave to the other peak, the shorter the wavelength the higher the frequency

one wavelength equals the distance between two successive wave crests or troughs.

Yes, you were correct. However, it doesn't have to be exact peak from peak. It can be anywhere on the same horizon, and make sure it is one period.

How would you go about finding the amplitude?

I have the same question... Does amplitude refer to the peak of the wave?

The amplitude of a wave refers to the maximum amount of displacement of a particle on the medium from its rest position. The amplitude can be measured from the rest position to the trough position.

Wavelength is commonly known as the "peak to peak" distance, but you can also use trough to trough distance. Amplitude is the "height" of the wave.

Yes it does, and frequency is the amount of repeated of the wave. Which makes them indirectly proportionate.

Yes, the wavelength is the distance between two peaks. But, this is only one definition. The wavelength can also be the distance between two troughs. Or, a wavelength can just be the distance between two sequentially equivalent points. When a wave passes the same starting point, that is what determines a wavelength.
