why is Hz sometimes changed to s^-1? what is the purpose?

Hz is essentially just a label for /s. When saying 25 Hz, we mean 25 cycles per second. They mean the same thing

Hertz is the SI unit for frequency, and it tells you cycles/second. When anything is denoted by ^-1, it puts the unit goes under 1. For example, s^-1 is 1/s, and g.mol^-1 is the equivalent of g/mol.

The negative exponent brings the “s” down to the denominator, making it “per second”.

It's the units of Hz. 5 Hz and 5 s^-1 and 5 cycles per second are all the same/
