The answer is photoelectric effect. Light is used to eject electrons from a metal, and if light acted as a wave, then increasing the intensity of the light would mean more electrons being ejected. However, this didn't work. Instead, decreasing the wavelength allowed the ejection of electrons, which means light acts as a particle as well. Thus, this is the photoelectric effect and explains why light acts as a particle.
