Baler v. Lyman Series

Postby Mallika Singh 1G » Sun Oct 13, 2019 8:56 pm

What are the differences between the two?

The Balmer series contains the visible part of the light spectrum, whereas the Lyman series is in the ultraviolet range on the light spectrum.

The Balmer series is found in the visible region of the hydrogen spectral lines and goes from n=3,4,5,... to n=1
The Lyman series is found in the ultraviolet series of the hydrogen spectra and goes from n=2,3,4,... to n=2

Balmer Series: visible light, n1 = 2
Lyman Series: ultraviolet light, n1 = 1

The n=1 and n=2 states represent the energy level to which the electrons drop back to, which is what the Lyman and Balmer series represent.

The Balmer series corresponds to the visible light region of the spectrum and the Lyman Series corresponds to the UV region of the spectrum. In the Balmer series, the electrons come to rest at the energy level n=2 and in the Lyman series, the electrons come to rest at n=1.

The Balmer series applies to the visible light region and the Lyman series applies to the UV region of the spectrum.

The Lyman series is the ultraviolet region of light while the Balmer series is the visible region of light. The Lyman series drops to n=1 while the Balmer series drops to n=2

The Balmer series corresponds to the region of visible light on the spectrum and the electrons drop to n=2. The Lyman series corresponds to the region of ultraviolet light and electrons drop to n=1.

The Balmer series is where the electron falls from its state and goes to n=2 and its in the visible light spectrum. The Lyman series where the electron drops to n=1 and it is in the uv region

The Balmer series is when the electron falls to the n = 2 energy level. The Lyman series is when the electron falls to the n = 1 energy level.
