Changing Amplitude

Postby Bilal Pandit 1J » Sun Oct 13, 2019 10:59 pm

We talked in class about how changing the intensity (amplitude) of the light did not change the energy of the photon. However, how does increasing the amplitude result in more total photons?

Increasing the amplitude will increase the intensity, but it does not affect the number of protons.

Intensity and amplitude are not related in the quantum model of light, as demonstrated by the photoelectric effect. Therefore, increasing amplitude has no relation to the number of photons. Increasing the intensity of light (ie making it brighter) results in more total photons.
