In homework problem 1.A.3 it asks if the extent of change in the electrical field at a given point decreases as the frequency of electromagnetic radiation decreases. I understand that as the frequency decreases the slope of the wave also decreases, but what roles does amplitude play in the extent of change at a given point as it is mentioned in the solutions manual? What is the relationship between amplitude and frequency?
Amplitude and frequency are independent of one another. Larger amplitude means higher energy and lower amplitude means lower energy. Higher frequency means more energy and lower frequency means lower energy using the E=h(frequency) equation.
