Value for C

Postby Mallika Chimpiri 3K » Sun Oct 27, 2019 1:58 pm

What value is recommended we use for the c constant during calculations? 2.998e8 or 3.00e8?

You can use either one. I like using 3x10^8 since its easier on my calculator. Either way .002 wouldn’t make a difference in your final answer.

Typically in calculations, it should be alright to use 3.00x10^8 in place for the speed of light. This definitely depends on how precise you want your result to be.

During my discussions we have been using 3.00x10^8, but as long as your final answer is rounded to the correct number of significant figures I'm sure either is fine to use!

During test, they will give you all the constants you need in the front page. I would try to use the ones that are given by the class on the front page.

I usually use 3.0x10^8.

Either one would be fine but on tests you should use the one given on the equations and constant sheet in order to be precise as possible.

Usually, I just use 2.998 x 10^8 to improve accuracy and just round off for significant figures only after the final calculation.

I think either is fine to use, but I would recommend using the one on the constants and equations sheet just in case.
