### Solving for energy of a photon

When solving for the energy of final orbital-initial orbital do you use the equation En=-hR/n^2? I believe that has to be set equal to hv to figure out the frequency but I'm not entirely sure?

That should be correct since the Bohr frequency condition says that hv=E upper-E lower

Yes, we did a problem like this in one of the review sessions, and we used the equation En=-hR/n^2 to solve for the change in energy.

Additionally, in this equation, the energy is negative because when an electron drops from a higher energy level to a lower energy level, energy is released in the form of a photon.
