What's on the test?
Will stuff covered in class on Wednesday week 4 be on the exam? Also will we only have 50 minute to take the test or will we be given more than our regular class time?

Re: What's on the test?
I'm not sure if Week 4 content will be on the test, but my TA said that we get only the 50 minute class period to complete the test. He said it's timed and online, so the 50 minutes begins when you open the test.

I believe Dr. Lavelle will send out an email with all of the information regarding the midterm.

I'm not completely sure about the content that'll be on the test, but I'm sure it'll include the audio-visual module focus topics on his website, with a majority (if not all) concepts based on the Quantum World. As for question types I know that the upcoming midterm will be completely multiple choice. Also remember to make/bring your own formula sheet!

Re: What's on the test?
Hello,
I think that there can be a possibility of everything we've covered up until the midterm to be on it but I believe that Dr. Lavelle will give us a more detailed understanding on what can/will be on it. I do know that he stated the fact that there is a possibility that he will take questions from the textbook homework problems so if you'd like some practice I'd advise you to try those.

I think Dr. Lavelle sent out an email recently saying that the week 4 Wednesday lecture information will not be on the midterms.

Re: What's on the test?
My TA said the timer will be at least 50 minutes long. There MIGHT be a few minutes extra for a grace period in case we have trouble settling in or any technical issues.

Wait, we're allowed a formula sheet?

Yes, I believe we will be provided with one already. However, I am not sure if we will be given a Periodic Table.

Re: What's on the test?
Most of the content in the Quantum Unit will be on the test. From what I heard, there may be some content in the homework assigned on Achieve that will not be included in this midterm, but if this is the case, it will be on the next midterm. Also, it wasn't clear what specific topics might not be on this midterm, so I'd recommend going through everything. Additionally, especially for the Quantum Unit, there will be conceptual questions tested on.

Hi! My TA told me that on the CCLE website, there are formula sheets and a periodic table available for us to print out. I would take a look at that whenever we set up respondus for the midterm!

I believe this midterm's content can include everything covered up to the end of Week 3.

I think we are provided with the PDFs for an approved formula sheet and periodic table, but we have to print them ourselves for the midterm.

Content taught through friday 10/15 is what we need to know for the midterm, that's what he said in lecture today.

Re: What's on the test?
Prof Lavelle said at the end of the 10/15 lecture that this would be the end of the content that will be on the midterm, so I believe anything up until 10/15 is fair game.

Re: What's on the test?
Today's lecture (10/15) ended with him saying that that is all for content on Midterm 1, so everything from fundamentals up until writing electron structures could potentially be on the exam.

Re: What's on the test?
The midterm covers all the material we have learned from Week 1 to Week 3. I believe that we are only allotted the 50 minutes during class to complete the exam but I am not entirely sure.

Re: What's on the test?
Hi! In class on Friday, Dr. Lavelle said that everything past that point would not be on the test, so I would assume everything we've learned these far from the first day of class to Friday, October 15 would be fair game. Additionally, I remember somebody saying that we only have the span of class time, so 50 minutes, to take the test. I am only 70% sure on this, but still wanted to relay what I'd heard if it might help.
Re: What's on the test?
Lavelle just sent out an email regarding test topics. He said this Friday's midterm will cover everything through the end of section 1E! Nothing from Week 4 will be on the test.

Lavelle told us that everything we have learned so far will be on the test. This is content from Week 1, 2, and 3 only. Week 4 will not be on the midterm.

The detailed information is emailed an hour ago. You should check your email about it.

He just sent out an email, clarifying that it is everything up until Friday, Week 3. Hope that is helpful!

Re: What's on the test?
In a recent email, Lavelle has announced that we finished all necessary content for Midterm 1 at the end of Week 3. He says that the midterm will cover up to content 1E in the textbook. I believe we only get the 50 minute time period for the exam.

Re: What's on the test?
Dr. Lavelle said that we finished learning what is on the test last Friday, so the material in week 4 will most likely be review or not on the midterm. I think that the best best will be to do the textbook outline problems to get a good idea of what will be on the test.

Re: What's on the test?
Even though it’s not open notes, I think my TA said that we might be provided with some equations so we don’t have to memorize everything like that. I was told that the information we will be provided with will be told to us next week.

Re: What's on the test?
Hi Jeremy,
Material covered from Week 1 to Week 3 will be on the test. So up until the material covered at the end of class on Friday of Week 3. Today (10.17), Dr. Lavelle sent out an email that's more specific on what's on the Midterm. It covers all material to the end of 1E in the textbook. Electron configuration of cations and anions and trends in the periodic table will not be on the midterm.

It is not an open notes test. We will be able to take in a constants and equations sheet and a periodic table sheet that Professor Lavelle has provided in his email and on his website.
Re: What's on the test?
Hi! Up until 1E in the textbook will be on the Midterm and nothing past lecture on Friday of Week 3.

Re: What's on the test?
I believe only information through quantum is going to be covered on the midterm. As such we should only be tested on the fundamentals and information up until friday's class on week three. At the end of friday's class Professor Lavelle also said at the end of his lecture that all information on the midterm had been covered.

In Dr. Lavelle's email he said that week 4 will not be on the test. Also I believe that the test will only be 50 minutes during the in-class time.

Re: What's on the test?
I believe that either Dr. Lavelle or your TA will explicitly announce which topics will be on the test during this upcoming week through an email or in class. But as far as I know it will only be a few topics and it will take around 50 minutes to complete.

I know the TAs are going to be going over the testing process as well, so you could ask your TA. The test is only 50 minutes though, and it's just during normal class time.
