Midterm Content

Postby Chelsea Culi 3F » Sat Oct 16, 2021 12:21 am

Would the midterm solely contain questions where we use formulas or would there also be questions that ask us to recall certain concepts?

I heard that the midterm will contain both formula-based and conceptual questions.

I believe that there will be a good "half and half" of conceptual questions along with actual formula-related questions that require you to solve the problem, especially since this will be a multiple choice test! I hope this helps!

Hi! My TA mentioned that it would be helpful to make sure you really understand the post-assessment questions on the Audio-Visual Focus-Topics - the midterm might look something like that...

I'm pretty sure the midterm will contain the same kind of content that we have seen in lectures and discussions. We have seen both formula-based and conceptual questions so it's best to study both.

From what I’ve heard from the TAs, there will be both. The best way to tell is to look at textbook questions.

I think there will be a good mix of formula and concept based questions. The textbook questions listed in the syllabus do a good job of checking both understanding and calculations. Also, as mentioned, the post-assessment questions seem to be a good resource for studying similar content to what will probably be on the midterm.

According to my TA, it would most likely be a mix of both and it would be very helpful to practice the book problems that he has outlined for us

The midterm should contain both conceptual and mathematical questions. The content covered is everything from the fundamentals section and everything in quantum up to electron configurations.

I think the midterm will include conceptual questions as well as calculations. We are required to print out the equation sheet so that means we will need it for any calculations with formulas. Conceptually speaking, we learned about the different names of light with different wavelengths, the series they correspond to, and etc.

The midterm will contain both mathematical/formula questions and conceptual questions, my TA also said that it would all be multiple choice.

Just want to add a quick thing as well since this is related: anything up to the last lecture on week 3 can be on the midterm, in terms of material possible if anyone was wondering.

I've also heard that the textbook problems are really similar to questions we might see on the midterm. The odd answers are also given too so you can double-check your answers!

I've also heard that some of the textbook questions will be on the tests. Don't quote me on that but I think if so, it would definitely be useful to have done all the practice problems from the textbook!

I believe that the midterm will include both conceptual questions as well as mathematical ones, but many people have said that it helps to focus on doing practice problems to study.

Does anyone know how much we are expected to know on electron configurations? Thanks

I think yes there will be conceptual problems as well as problem solving ones. I think the textbook and the assessments on the module are really good to study because they have a mix of both.

I have heard that the best way to prepare is by doing the optional practice problems he assigned from the textbook. As far as I know, there will be a mix of conceptual questions and calculation questions on the midterm.

the midterm questions will force to use your conceptual knowledge and equations that force you to apply that knowledge.

I think it'll be a mix of both and he said that the audio visual topic post assessment questions and textbook questions might look really similar to the midterm questions as well

Hi! I'm sure that we need to be able to answer formula-based questions as well as conceptual questions. Especially as usually you need to be able to understand the concepts to be able to use the formulas to answer the question.
