Cathode vs Anode
Could someone explain how to determine which metal is the cathode and which is the anode?

Re: Cathode vs Anode
The cathode is te positive region of the electrode where reduction happens. If you can determine where electrons are gained, then you know which one is the cathode.

Re: Cathode vs Anode
Just to add to the original answer, if you look at the standard electrode potentials for the metals involved the metal with the higher number will be the cathode (where reduction occurs), and the metal with the lower number will be the anode (where oxidation occurs).

Re: Cathode vs Anode
To determine which metal is the cathode and which is the anode, you can consider the reduction potentials: the metal with a more positive reduction potential will be the cathode, and the one with a less positive potential will be the anode.
