oxiding/reduxing agents and standard potentials

Why do oxidizing agents have higher standard reduction potentials? Why do reduction agents have negative standard reduction potentials?

Oxidizing agents are substances that are capable of accepting electrons from other substances, thereby oxidizing them. Reduction agents, on the other hand, are substances that can donate electrons to other substances, thereby reducing them.

The standard reduction potential of a substance is a measure of the ability of the substance to reduce another substance. The higher the standard reduction potential, the greater the ability of the substance to reduce another substance, and the more likely it is to be an oxidizing agent. Conversely, substances with negative standard reduction potentials are better at being reduced and are more likely to be reduction agents.

Oxidizing agents have a higher standard reduction potential because they are more likely to accept electrons. This means that they have a stronger tendency to become reduced. Reduction agents, on the other hand, have a negative standard reduction potential because they are less likely to accept electrons. This means that they have a stronger tendency to donate electrons and become oxidized.

I hope this helps :)
