Calculating Standard Cell Potentials

Postby Steph S 2F » Fri Feb 05, 2016 3:20 pm

If we are asked to find the standard cell potential, but both half reactions are given as reduction potentials in the table, how do we know which one to oxidize?

Usually you flip the one where if you add both potentials up, you get a positive number. For example if you two half reactions that E=2.15 V and E=1.25 V, you would flip the E=1.25 V.
