galvanic cells and flow of electrons

Postby MafruhaR » Sun Mar 17, 2024 11:39 pm

how do you differentiate between the anode and the cathode in a galvanic cell. How do their roles relate to the flow of electrons?

In a galvanic cell:

Anode: It's where oxidation occurs. Electrons are lost from the anode, making it negatively charged.
Cathode: It's where reduction occurs. Electrons are gained at the cathode, making it positively charged.
Electrons flow from the anode to the cathode through an external circuit, generating an electric current. This flow of electrons powers the cell and creates electricity.
