Cell Diagrams

How exactly do you distinguish where to use a single vertical line or a comma in cell diagrams between the reactant and product of a half reaction?

A vertical line is used when separating two structures of different phases, but if they are in the same phase, you can use a comma.

Vertical lines are used to indicate the phase changes of the materials that make up the anode or cathode. Commas are used to indicate materials in the anode or cathode that are a part of the same solution in the same phase.
