Anode and Cathode

Postby Mackenzie Lay 2H » Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:53 pm

How do we tell which part of an equation is the anode and which one is the cathode?

Hi! You would select the one with the highest reduction potential to be your cathode, and then the lowest reduction potential half of the reaction to be the anode. :)

An anode is the electrode where oxidation occurs when there is an electrochemical reaction. They are released from the anode during oxidation.
The cathode is the electrode where reduction occurs when there is an electrochemical reaction. Electrons are gained by cathodes during reduction.
