On Friday's lecture we looked at the silver concentration cell diagram and discussed minimally that the anode breaks down. I was wondering if anyone could describe why this happens in more depth. Thanks!

The oxidation reaction Ag(s) --> Ag+(aq) + 1 e- occurs at the anode. Since the silver is coming from the anode, the anode is dissolving and the concentration of silver ions is increasing.
