When drawing cell diagrams, what is the difference between using a straight line versus a comma? In the case of questions in which reduction and oxidation occur with the same element, which one goes on the reduction/oxidation cathode/anode side?
When drawing cell diagrams, I think the difference between using a line and comma is due to phase changes. If the element remains in the same phase (ex: aqueous to aqueous), you would use and comma. If the element undergoes a phase change (ex: aqueous to solid), you would use a line. Hope this helps!
