In the homework, Pt and graphite are used, but are those the only electrodes we need to know? And when do we know which one to use?

If there is not an electrode given, pt electrodes are inert and work perfectly. I don't think there's a situation when either of them would be favored.

Hope this helps!

When you are in need of an inert electrode, i.e. one of them isn't present in the original problem, you get to choose whether to use platinum or graphite. Neither one is preferred, however the book tends to use platinum as an example.
