What does it mean when E/the standard reduction potential is negative?

If E is negative, then is positive, due to the equation , which would tell you that the process you are looking at is not spontaneous.

In addition, when E˚(the standard reduction potential) is negative, the species tends to be a reducing agent because the more negative E˚is, the more willing it is to give up electrons, or be oxidized.
