Electrochemical Series Definition

Postby Naomi Jennings 2H » Sun Feb 18, 2018 10:54 pm

Can someone define what an "Electrochemical series" is? The textbook uses this term in 14.7. Thanks!

The Electrochemical Series is a table of various metals in the order of their electrochemical activities (based on their standard oxidation-reduction potentials). The most negative E° values are placed at the top of the list, and the most positive at the bottom.

An electrochemical series is a list of reduction half reactions listed in order of increasing E°values.

Electrochemical series is an arrangement of various metals in the order of their electrochemical activities based on the standard oxidation-reduction potential. The strongest oxidizing agents are at the top left of the table, the strongest reducing agents are at the bottom right of the table.

An electrochemical series is a series of chemical elements arranged in order of their standard electrode potentials. The series shows the order in which metals replace one another from their salts.
