14.17 HW problem

Postby Paula Dowdell 1F » Mon Feb 19, 2018 11:54 pm

Can someone explain to me why the H+ is added in this cell diagram?

The answer is: Pt(s)|Fe3+(aq), Fe2+(aq)||H+(aq), MnO4-(aq), Mn2+(aq)|Pt(s)

Because this redox reaction takes place in an acidic solution, so you add H+ to balance the equation.
