What is the main difference between a galvanic and electrolytic cell?

A Galvanic cell converts chemical energy into electrical energy. An electrolytic cell converts electrical energy into chemical energy. Electrolysis is used to drive an oxidation-reduction reaction in a direction in which it does not occur spontaneously.

We mainly learned about Galvanic cells: they are cells in which chemical energy released by a spontaneous redox reaction are converted to electrical energy. For the overall cell reaction, deltaG should be less than 0 to indicate that the reaction is spontaneous.
In an electrolytic cell, electrical energy is used to drive nonspontanoues redox reactions. In this case, deltaG should be positive due to the nonspontaneous reaction.

Galvanic cells have spontaneous reactions, while electrolytic cells have nonspontaneous reactions.
