How do the electrons get transferred from anode to the cathode? I understand that there's a wire involved, but do the electrons just kind of shoot through the wire?

This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGUKtJZJZUk helped me understand it a bit better - basically, electric current causes the "free" electrons to move from atom to atom of the conducting material.

Because there are different charges in the cathode and anode, the electrons will naturally move through the conducive wire to the cathode side!

Hope this helped.
