Reading a Cell Diagram

Postby Rakhi Ratanjee 1D » Sun Mar 11, 2018 3:29 pm

How do you read a cell diagram from left to right? On the anode side and cathode side, how do you know which molecules are the reactants and products?

the reactant should be more to the left of each side

You read a cell diagram from left to right. Usually the left reaction is the oxidized reaction (anode) while the right reaction is the reduced reaction (cathode)

I found this resource to be incredibly useful: https://chem.libretexts.org/Core/Analyt ... taic_Cells
Open source textbooks are pretty great (and I found this one to be more concise than our textbook).

The oxidized reaction is on the left side, where the anode is, and the reduced reaction is on the right side, where the cathode is.
