Oxidation Power

Postby Amanda Mac 1C » Wed Mar 14, 2018 8:37 pm

Does a large value for oxidation power mean a more positive reduction potential or is it the other way around?

A large number for oxidation power means that the compound is readily reduced and so will have a more positive reduction potential.

The higher the standard standard reduction potential the better oxidizing agent and the more likely the reaction is to be reduced and the more negative the stanbdard potential the better a reducing agent and the more likely to be oxidized.

Does this mean high oxidation power is the same as being a strong oxidation agent?
