Homework 14.15c : KOH in cell diagram

Postby Allison Young 1K » Sat Mar 17, 2018 3:29 pm

In homework problem 14.15c) the cell diagram is
Cd (s)|Cd(OH)2 (s)|KOH (aq) || Ni(OH)3 (s)|Ni(OH)2 (s)|Ni(s)
- Is it correct if I just write OH- instead of KOH?
- Does the electrode have to be Ni? Can you use Pt (s) here?

Yes Ni(s) can be used as an electrode because it is a metal conductor like Pt(s) and will allow for the transfer of e-

Yes you can use just OH because K is not involved in the redox reactions.
