could someone expand on the concepts behind galvanic/voltaic cells?

Galvanic cells consist of an anode and a cathode that would produce a spontaneous reaction between them. In order for there to be a spontaneous reaction, the gibbs free energy must be negative, so that means that the standard cell potential must be positive as G=-nFE. Knowing this, this means that our combination of anode and cathodes must lead to the greatest positive sum.

A galvanic or voltaic cell is a cell that derives electrical energy from spontaneous redox reactions taking place within the cell. The anode is constantly passing electrons to the cathode, usually via an electrical wire, while a porous disk or salt bridge maintains the charges of the aqueous solutions on both sides of the cell so that the redox reactions can continue.
