Re: Salt Bridge
the salt bridge helps to prevent charges from being built up on one side of the cathode and anode interaction so that it can continue creating a current

Re: Salt Bridge
Also remember that because a salt bridge prevents charges from building up on either side by allowing from ion transfer, it also ensures that the two solutions both remain neutral.

Re: Salt Bridge
Without a salt bridge or a porous disk to allow ion transfer and to keep the two solutions neutral, electron transfer from one reaction beaker to the other will stop due to charge buildup.

Re: Salt Bridge
Another note is salt bridges have the same purpose as porous discs. The only difference is salt bridges connect the solutions between two different containers while porous discs connect the solutions separated in the same container.

Re: Salt Bridge
The e- transfer from one reaction to another will stop due to charge build up and the reaction will stop. The salt bridge serves to maintain neutrality. Adding a salt bridge or porous disk allows the ion transfer to stay neutral.
