Galvanic/Voltaic Cells

Postby Jessica Tsui 1H » Wed Feb 20, 2019 11:55 pm

Is there a difference between the terms "galvanic" and "voltaic"? Or are they interchangeable?

They are interchangeable. The difference in name comes from scientists who worked on similar ideas for an early battery around the same time frame.

They are synonymous, however, once we get to it there is a difference between galvanic and electrolytic

i found this site that seems to explain the difference between galvanic/electrolytic cells pretty well.
(since we're learning galvanic cells for now and at least i was kinda confused about those two:)

The book makes it seem like a galvanic cell is a type of electrochemical cell but not vice versa. Is this correct?
