Cell with all-solid species

Postby Meghanhe1l » Sun Mar 03, 2019 3:41 pm

I am having trouble visualizing a cell that only has solid-state species as well as a solid conductor. How would such a cell operate?

If that is the case, I believe you would have to include a salt into the cell diagram onto the oxidation side (i.e. KOH) in order for ions to transfer and neutralize the charges. There was a homework problem like that, Chapter 14.15 in the 6th Edition.
Cd(s) + 2Ni(OH)3(s) --->Cd(OH)2(s) + 2Ni(OH)2(s) in a nickel-cadmium cell.
