When you break up a redox reaction into the reduction and oxidation reactions that make it up, those two reactions are the half reactions.

Half reactions are oxidation and reduction processes that occur in a redox reaction.

A great way to remember them is OIL RIG –– "oxidation is loss (of electrons), reduction is gain."

Hope this helps!

half-reactions are taking the redox reaction and analyzing one metal at a time. for example, the Zn(s) + Cu2+ (aq) = Zn2+ (aq) + Cu(s) reaction will now become:
1) Zn(s)=Zn2+ (aq) + 2e-
2) Cu2+ (aq) + 2e- = Cu(s)

hope this helps!

A half reaction is either the reduction reaction or oxidation reaction that comprise the redox reaction

Half reactions are the reduction and oxidation processes that occur in a redox reaction, which we break up to make easier to solve.

The half reactions are the individual Reduction and Oxidation reactions of a Redox reaction

Half reactions are the two halves of a redox reaction. One half reaction is an oxidation reaction, and one is a reduction reaction. Half reactions include electrons in them. However, the textbook notes that electrons are never actually free in redox reactions. Half reactions are a convenient and super useful way of understanding redox reactions, but they are slightly misleading in this sense.

Half reactions are the reduction and oxidation reactions that make up a redox reaction.

you break up a full redox reactions into two separate "half reactions" that show the oxidation and reduction reactions

A half reaction is either the oxidation or reduction reaction that makes up a redox reaction.

A half reaction shows either the oxidation or reduction of elements, and thus shows the relative transfer of electrons. It is useful because it allows us to balance the electrons in a redox reaction.

A half reaction is a reaction that displays either the oxidation or the reduction in a redox reaction.
