salt bridge

what exactly does the salt bridge do and How does it help neutralize the charge buildup? Also what even causes the charge buildup originally? Can you explain with an example?

salt bridge maintains the charge balance b/c the electrons are moving from one half cell to the other half cell. the electrons will flow from one adnode to the cathode. So, the reaction reaching equilibrium slows down.

A salt bridge maintains electrical neutrality within the internal circuit, which prevents the cell from rapidly running its reaction to equilibrium. When there is no net change anymore, the cell can no longer do work.

A salt bridge connects the oxidation and reduction 1/2 cells of a galvanic cells. It works to maintain electrical neutrality w/in the internal circuit, and prevents the cell from rapidly reaching equilibrium. If no salt bridge were present, the solution in one 1/2 cell would accumulate negative charge and the other 1/2 cell would accumulate positive charge. This would prevent further reaction and the production of electricity.

Charge builds up as electrons move from the anode (-) to the cathode (+). It is important to neutralize the charge build-up so that electrons can continue to flow. Without a salt bridge, the electrons would stop flowing to the cathode because the build-up of negative charge would repel them. The salt bridge provides ions that return the solutions in each beaker to a neutral state.
For example, a salt bridge made up of KNO3 would provide NO3- ions to neutralize a positive solution and K+ ions to neutralize a negative solution.

you can also use a porous disk to achieve this! just a material which allows the certain type of ions to move through
