Concentration Cells

Postby EvanWang » Tue Feb 25, 2020 11:33 am

Can concentration cells be made with a salt bridge? Or can they only be made with a porous disk?

I believe we use a porous disk so that ions can move through to either side until their concentrations reach equilibrium. I don't think this would happen if a salt bridge was used

Salt bridges cannot be used because since it is the same molecules on both sides, the salt bridge wouldn't move anything. Porous disks allows for the higher concentration to diffuse into the lower.
