Do electrolytes flow to the anode or cathode end? What is the purpose of the electrolytes in the redox reaction?

Within a battery, electrons are pumped away from the anode and into the cathode. I believe the same can be said for electrolytes as they become ions when dissolved in water.

In a battery, the battery pumps electrons away from the anode, thus making it positive, and towards the anode, making the cation positive. Since an electrolyte is a substance that dissolves in water and creates an electrically conducting solution, the electrolyte helps conduct the current needed to transfer the electrons.
